Privacy and cookies
What this website collects (very little), and the cookie choice for Google Analytics.
This page explains what happens to information about you when you use this website. The website is run by Library of Stuff CIC, 270 Greenwood Avenue, Hull HU6 9RS. If you have any questions, email info@libraryofstuff.co.uk.
What this website collects
Very little. There are no accounts, forms or sign-ins on this website, and we don’t set any cookies of our own.
- Borrowing, joining and booking happen in our catalogue at borrow.libraryofstuff.co.uk, which runs on Lend Engine and has its own privacy policy.
- Donations are taken by Stripe, and gift cards by GiftUp. They handle your payment details, not us.
- Live figures on the homepage, such as items borrowed this month, are totals and item names only. They never include anything about our members.
Hosting
The website is hosted by Cloudflare, which serves pages from the data centre closest to you. To deliver pages and protect the site from attacks, Cloudflare handles your IP address and basic details of each request. It doesn’t use them to track you across other websites.
Analytics cookies (only if you say yes)
We’d like to use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages help people most. It only runs if you choose Accept on the cookie message. If you choose No thanks, or ignore the message, it never loads.
If you accept, Google Analytics sets these cookies:
| Cookie | What it’s for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Tells one visit from another | 2 years |
_ga_ followed by letters and numbers | Remembers the state of your current visit | 2 years |
We’ve switched off Google’s advertising features. Google Analytics doesn’t store your full IP address. Google may process the data outside the UK, under its own data protection terms.
Your choice is saved in your browser, so we don’t ask again. To change it at any time, use Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
Things from other websites
- Facebook posts on the homepage show pictures loaded from Facebook’s servers, so Facebook can see your IP address when they load.
- The gift page loads GiftUp’s checkout, which may set the cookies it needs to complete your purchase.
- Links to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, Google Forms and other websites take you to those services. Their own privacy policies then apply.
When you contact us
If you email, phone or message us on WhatsApp, we use what you send to reply. We keep it only as long as we need to. WhatsApp is run by Meta.
Your rights
You can ask us what information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
