How borrowing works
Join for £80 or £5, reserve online, collect from 270 Greenwood Avenue and bring it back a week later.
Choose a membership
The pay-as-you-go membership has no fair use limits: you pay for each borrow instead.
You can join online through the catalogue, or in person when the library is open.
Borrowing from the Library of Stuff is like borrowing a book, except it’s a carpet cleaner, a gazebo or a cement mixer.
Reserve what you need
Search the catalogue for the item, pick your dates and book it. Most loans are for a week. Many popular items have more than one copy, so check the dates even if one is already booked.
Collect, use, return
Collect your item from the library during opening hours. We’ll show you how to use it safely and give you any instructions it needs. Bring it back clean by the return date so the next person can borrow it.
Safe to use
Every item is inspected and tested before it goes out, and electrical items are PAT tested. We include a safe-use talk and handouts when you pick up, and we carry out regular checks and risk assessments.
Free to borrow
Some items are free for all members, including health and wellbeing items funded by the CHCP Foundation and litter pickers provided by Hull City Council.
Questions
Can I borrow if I live outside Hull? Yes. Members come from all over the city and as far as Selby.
What if the thing I want isn’t in the catalogue? Tell us. We keep a wanted list from members’ requests and buy second-hand items when funding allows.
Can I give something to the library? Yes, if it’s in good working order. See Donate.
